What you (the client) needs to prepare to ensure quality Japanese / English translations

As a client seeking the services of a Japanese / English translation agency, it's important to be well-prepared in order to ensure that you receive high-quality translations that accurately convey the intended meaning and tone of your original text. Here are a few things you can do to help ensure that you receive the best possible translations:

  1. Provide clear and detailed instructions: Make sure to provide the translation agency (us) with clear and detailed instructions about what you need translated and how you would like the final product to be delivered. This should include the source language, target language, subject matter, intended audience, and any specific terminology or style guidelines that you would like the translators to follow.

  2. Provide relevant context (especially for Japan): Translation is more than just a word-for-word conversion from one language to another. It requires a deep understanding of the context in which the text will be used, as well as the cultural and social norms of the target language. Especially when the culture is Japanese. Make sure to provide the translation agency with any relevant context that may help the translators better understand your text and how it will be used.

  3. Use high-quality source material: The quality of the translation is only as good as the quality of the source material. Make sure to provide the translation agency (us again) with high-quality source material that is easy to read and understand. This could include properly formatted documents, clear and legible scans, or audio recordings with good sound quality. We will always ensure we try to understand the content fully before launching into translating, and for this, we would request some kick off discussions to align on the above.

  4. Communicate with the translation agency (us): Make sure to communicate with the translation agency (us) throughout the translation process to ask any questions or clarify any issues that may arise. Likewise, we will also do so in reverse. We will flag, highlight, raise any concerns or questions we have about what we do not understand. This will help ensure that you receive a translation that meets your needs and expectations.

Although not all, by following the above tips and points so far, you can help ensure that you receive high-quality translations from a translation agency (us) that accurately convey the intended meaning and tone of your original text, and increasing your chances to successfully reaching your intended audience and purpose. As always, if there are questions, contact us. We'll be happy to help discuss your needs. Sloane Japan
